Let us make the metaphor clear. Suppose a burglar were to break into a house, and were to be carrying his child on his back. And, during the burglary, he were to drop the child… or lay her down and forget her-… or lay her down and abandon her when he was forced to flee. And the householder can’t shoot the burglar, so decides to kill his child instead. That, under any law, is murder. Murder most foul.
Because the child is not the burglar. She is another victim of the burglar.
