It has been a long time since I have done a ‘housekeeping’ post. Maybe because I have been too busy writing posts and going seeing my kids and writing long form fiction. But, anyway, the time has come to do an overall list of what I am working on here on Substack.
Merry Monday
I have taken over sending out the Merry Monday summary posts from Seth. This is one of the most pleasant of tasks… altho I don’t always get it out on time. In fact, I am still zero for two. But, life goes on:
Merry Monday September 2, 2024
Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun.
Poems and Quotes
I am currently posting my way through “Leave it to Psmith”, by GK Chesterton, and “Captains Courageous” by Rudyard Kipling. Chapter by chapter for Psmith, and occasional fun bits for Captains.
A Rope's End, by Rudyard Kipling
"I'm glad ye spoke, Danny," cried Long Jack, who had been casting round in search of amusement. "I'd clean forgot we'd a passenger under that T-wharf hat. There's no idleness for thim that don't know their ropes. Pass him along, Tom Platt, an' we'll larn him."
Born for Suffering
After Psmith had withdrawn his spectacular person from it, there was an interval of perhaps twenty minutes before anything else occurred to brighten the drabness of Wallingford Street. The lethargy of afternoon held the thoroughfare in its grip. Occasionally a tradesman’s cart would rattle round the corner, and from time to time cats appeared, stalking …
Contract Marriage
I am continuing to post my way through my story ‘Contract Marriage’, which is an adult dystopia about marriage and cultures.
Article 17
And my other adult dystopia, or sci-fi knowledge set in a future not everyone would want to live in, is ‘Article 17’.
Theology and Child raising
I have been posting some obnoxious posts about how to raise your children. Annoying things like, “Listen to them the first time they talk to you” and “Make them Obey”. I have also been defending six-day creation and attacking birth control.
The Scriptures vs Natural Family Planning
A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.
Hath God Said?
Exo 31:17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.
Faithful in Little
Big things are really rare. Most of life is actually a compilation of little things. Parenting is no different. 99.9% of parenting is… little things.
Other Writing
Full confession, I have been doing a lot of other writing. Hopefully it is writing that will one day show up here, but it hasn’t produced much yet.
Thank you for reading Von’s Substack. I would love it if you commented! I love hearing from readers, especially critical comments. I would love to start more letter exchanges, so if there’s a subject you’re interested in, get writing and tag me!
Being ‘restacked’ and mentioned in ‘notes’ is very important for lesser-known stacks so… feel free! I’m semi-retired and write as a ministry (and for fun) so you don’t need to feel guilty you aren’t paying for anything, but if you enjoy my writing (even if you dramatically disagree with it), then restack, please! Or mention me in one of your own posts.
If I don’t write you back it is almost certain that I didn’t see it, so please feel free to comment and link to your post. Or if you just think I would be interested in your post!
If you get lost, check out my ‘Table of Contents’ which I try to keep up to date.
Thanks again, God Bless, Soli Deo gloria,
Von
