A Sci-Fri Contest
As some people know I put together a review post every Friday… or Saturday… or occasionally Monday… talking about and listing the various ‘Sci-Friday’ posts that I received, or was tagged in, etc.
And as everyone knows, people like contests. So I have decided to put together a ‘Sci-Friday Contest.’ The rules are these:
The only stories which are eligible are those which have already been published on Substack and tagged in a Sci-Friday post or note. Not necessarily my posts or note, but someone. Published on Friday, (or a couple days later) and mentions Sci-Friday.
Stories can only be nominated by a Sci-Friday poster. Someone who has posted a Sci-Friday note about their own or someone else’s Science or Science Fiction story on Substack. The author of the story MAY NOT nominate his own story.
Votes in favour of the nominated story can, again, only be given by those who have participated in Sci-Friday and who are NOT the author of the story.
I will tally the votes and announce the winner in my next Sci-Friday post after I count the votes. I’m thinking about March 28th.
What’s the prize? Being announced as the winner in my Substack post :)
Nominate!
So if you’ve seen a good Science or Science Fiction post, and if it has been promoted during Sci-Friday, and if you are not the author… make your nomination in the comments below. One nomination each, please.
Please also include a link to a Sci-Friday note or post that you have made. Oh, and even if you think I write the best Sci-Fi on Substack, please don’t nominate one of my stories.
Vote!
If you like one of the stories nominated more than the others, then make a ‘vote’ comment in reply to that nomination. Remember, it can’t be your own story you are voting for.
Re-stack!
This won’t work unless a lot of people know about it, so like and re-stack and cross post etc.

Sci-Friday Review Feb 28, 2025
Science fiction is a fascinating genre. For one thing, because it includes so many sub-genres, and so much mixing of the sub-genres. Time travel, Lit-RPG, aliens, cultures, advanced tech, a time after advanced tech, utopias, dystopias, utopias which are really dystopias, hard sci-fi, soft sci-fi, space opera… it is a big list.

I'm going to nominate this one: https://aroundscifi.substack.com/p/at-1225-pm by Michael Morgan (see comment above), partly because it put a smile on my face. Not only that, though. It's fun. It's cool. It's (cyber-)punky. It's bizarre. And it's snappily written. And all in less than, what, 1000 words? That's craft, that is. Go on, read it.
And here is a note from me from a sci-friday: https://substack.com/@inadifferentplace/note/c-96919959
Did I get it right?
This is from a few months ago, and might not be SF, but Walter does other SF stuff, so I think it counts.

I'm sharing this comment to Notes, so I hope that counts for the Sci-Friday post.
