Will the money be important later on? I find it odd that our Hero doesn't realize that an inheritance *can't* (or at least isn't) be returned. I can see not wanting to live on it. And perhaps preserve it to be passed on to any daughters they may have. Either that, or donate to a worthy charitable foundation. Or create one. I assume this universe has some?
Our hero is from a very different culture, different planet, different part of the empire, and had a very, very strange upbringing. The money will come up again way later. This chapter was meant to reveal some of his ignorance.

At least he has *some* flaws. Not that he was presented as flawless before.
I’m trying to present him as having several social flaws, but I’m finding it a bit awkward because of the kind of flaws that I want him to have.
