Her mother has had what? Two En-Drek-U's and she still flushes?

Jellia is adapting well. She doesn't even blush anymore.

Great comment.

The idea in this story might be similar to anyone who has ever traveled overseas with children. The adults of the family are totally used to their old culture, and it might take a while, if ever, for them to adjust to the new one. Meanwhile the children... adapt.

So in this case Fenestra, the mother, was used to the 'dating' culture of her old planet. The man would ask, the woman would agree, and they would have sex. The idea that the same man would be there day after day, and they would have sex without this constant culture of 'consent', of asking and being given permission, is anathema to her. As is being given orders by her en-drek.

Whereas Jellia, the daughter, grew up as a kid in the old culture, but never really experienced it. So she just goes with the flow. In all sorts of areas.
