Housekeeping 12/23
Half of the value of these housekeeping posts is reminding me of what I am doing! Ah, the gifts of old age… experience and no memory. They seem contradictory. I go through my history and I’m like, “Oh, yeah… that is an important issue!”
So, to help me and hopefully to help my audience, here is a summary list of some of the posts and topics that I am dealing with.
Letter Exchanges!
I have so been enjoying the various letter exchanges I have been involved in. The exchanges themselves and the comment threads. Still looking for more of both, though!
Pizza, Sushi, God and Morality
Fallible Father and I are going at it over Pizza and Sushi. It is an interesting issue, as we don’t seem to even be able to quite agree on what we are arguing about. Russel Gold has put in quite a number of comments, as well.
A Pound of Pizza
This post is a continuation of the ‘Pizza and Sushi’ series that I am having with Fallible Father , but in it I am specifically responding to a comment by Russell Gold.” The difference is that those things are observable; the definition of morality is not. Morality does not declare something to be of a particular weight or size - it is inherently a value judgment. The difference t…
A Piece of Pi
Defining Pi I once heard a story, which may well be apocryphal, about a politician who decided that they should pass a law setting pi to 3. It would be much easier on everyone, his reasoning went. It would be so much easier to multiply numbers by ‘3’ than by the infinitely long number ‘3.14…’.
The knowledge of Pizza, Defintion of Sushi, and Existence of Food
Pizza Toss Let us watch an expert pizza maker. He makes hand-tossed original pizza and once disowned a cousin who put pineapple on a pizza. We watch him as he grabs a lump of dough and he tosses it into the air… and it falls down. Because… ‘gravity’.
Pizza, Sushi, and the Definition of Morality
Pineapple Pizza Let me start this post by asking a question: Is pineapple pizza blasphemous? Is it an actively evil thing to put pineapple on pizza? Let’s think about what we would need to do in order to answer that question. We would have to know what pizza is. And pineapple. We would have to know what ‘evil’ is and ‘blasphemy’. And we would have to have…
Patriarchy
JS Kashmir and I are discussing the question, “Is Patriarchy Inevitable?” Patriarchy properly defined, of course, which has been a lot of what we have been working on. JS has a cool idea… a post keeping track of the posts. I hadn’t thought of that for my non-fiction.
Blessings of the Breasts and the Womb
Intro So, J.S. Kasimir has posted a response in the ‘Inevitability of Patriarchy’ letter exchange. I definitely advise you to read it. As I read it, it is about 1/3 dealing with the issue, and 2/3 combination wishful thinking and hope for the future.

The Feminist Problem with Patriarchy
Parenting
Just Plain Rivka and I are discussing parenting. Her method, in which she claims to speak for no one else, she calls ‘Gentle Parenting’. I describe mine as ‘Woodshed Parenting’ (altho she calls it ‘traditional’. Not sure how much international experience she has had.).
Woodshed Parenting
Intro So, yet another letter exchange! It seems like it is becoming my mainstay. Which I love! This one is with Just plain Rivka who writes the logic and morality substack. Thanks for reading Von’s Substack! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.
What is Marriage?
Andrew Dad explains and I were discussing the question of ‘What is Marriage?” He has been taking a bit of a break, but I’m eager to get back in whenever he is free.
What is Marriage #1B
So, this is my first letter in this ‘letter exchange’ substack article series. I encourage you all to read what Andrew wrote in his first post, laying out the format and everything. He’s definitely a better formatter of Substacks than I am. In his letter he lays out a bunch of questions and thoughts about what marriage is, dealing with both historical is…
Dating
Mark Fioretti decided to jump into a letter exchange about dating. Hint: I’m opposed.
And God Brought the Woman
So, Marco Fioretti has decided to jump into the ‘Letter Exchange’ thing with me. He writes: About 3 months ago, I published some "Thoughts and tips on the State of Dating". Later, the author of Von's Substack , after sharing the general concept of letter exchanges in a Substack forum,
The Abolitionist
One of the most important issues of our time some call ‘Abortion’ and I call ‘Child Murder’.
Non-Sequitors and Edge Cases
My last abolitionist post brought some comments, which I always enjoy. I’m always looking for serious, well-argued opponents to discuss all of the issues that I focus on. But there are a couple of ways of diverting the argument away from the clear issues of child murder, and I think it is good to mention these. To get them ‘out of the way’, as it were. T…
Fiction
I have three fictions that I have been working on. Two are active right now, and one is taking a vacation.
Contract Marriage
Contract Marriage Intro
And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
The Facts of Life
Fenestra opened a rather bleary eye and saw her daughter, at the bottom of the stairs, staring at her and Alex, where they lay entwined on the couch. Staring with that disapproving frown that she always seemed to have recently whenever Mother brought
Island People
Ambassadors and Witnesses IP 22
The guard bowed, and, without speaking, opened the door, his counterpart moving in parallel. Seth, accompanied by Mgwan, Tristan, and Wynforr, and followed by the entire crowd at the door, entered the hall. A large number of Dwarves, and some others, were already there, and the noise level was rather high and chaotic; but the large influx of new arrival…
The Oracle
The Oracle at Toko-Ri
Next Post → The following is a work of fiction. It is not in the slightest meant to represent reality. It is the first section (prologue) in a series of vignettes. You might call them moralistic vignettes… like Aesop’s Fables except not with animals.
IllAdvised Opinions
The Supreme Court Season has started up again, but I haven’t written any more IllAdvised Opinions. They are coming, I’m sure. The last season brought us some fascinating subjects.
The Racism of Justice Jackson
Revelation 15:4 Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest. There are many varieties of racism. Indeed there are so many varieties that I despair of the word ever being useful. Judge Jackson is so seeped in one of those varieties t…
A Disasterous Misadventure
Electing our leaders based upon voting is an exercise fraught with difficulties, as I pointed out in my ‘One Man, One Vote’ post. One of the most fraught issues is that political groups are going to try to wrest the voting system into whatever form suits them best. And there is only so much one can do about that since whoever you give the power to deter…
Other Stuff
Views on Israel
I have been busy watching various people write and speak on the Israel war, and it has been a very interesting mix of voices. People on the ‘right’ and on the ‘left’; people on Israel’s side, Hamas’s side, and those trying for some middle position. So I thought I would compile a list, for my reference and possibly for others as well. This list is meant …
Single Income Lots of Kids
The internet is awash with acronyms for social groups, especially modern social groups. You have ‘INCEL’, which at its core stands for ‘involuntarily celibate’; and usually refers to a young man who wishes to date, marry, have sex etc. but cannot manage it. You have
Quote, Misquote, and Steelman
I am having a fascinating discussion with Fallible Father on the existence and importance of God and our understanding of God. My next main post should come out soon, but this post is kind of a ‘side’ post to our main discussion and is about another subject entirely: the importance of quotes. Of accurately quoting your opponent.
The Hard Bigotry of Hyerbolic Expectations
-Note to Christians: I realise that the modern governments of the State of Israel have adopted blasphemous laws concerning such issues as Sodomy. I realise that their culture, like so many ‘western’ cultures is decadent and Godless. I realise that the governments of the State of Israel as a nation and the Jewish people as a whole have rejected their Mes…
Future
I am certainly hoping to do a lot more letter exchanges in the future. I have a couple of fiction stories that I am also hoping to start putting up. I’m thinking of going paid, but just for my fiction. Would love more comments. And ideas for future posts.
